Welcome to the MediaInfra ProNews!

We are pleased to bring you the latest news on EVS MediaInfra solutions.

Let’s start by exploring the new 2.4 version of Cerebrum, which provides the essential functionality to improve how your infrastructure can be configured, monitored, routed, and controlled.

In this issue, we will also give an update on the latest addition to the Neuron family. Introducing the Neuron VIEW, an IP-native production multiviewer.

Cerebrum 2.4 features

Network Control Integration (SDN)

More and more customers are moving into native ST-2110 IP architectures which work perfectly fine with an IGMP network but sometimes you require a bit more control on your network fabric.  There can be multiple reasons for wanting more network control. Maybe you want to secure your network better, or your engineering team would like to have a visual representation of routing flows. Perhaps you would like to monitor network bandwidth or have routes that automatically reconnect in case of failover. Then this troubleshooting and monitoring solution is for you.

Cerebrum has integrated with Arista MCS and Cisco NDFC, two software solutions specific to their switches, which allows for tighter network control under one network command interface.

This picture shows the Cerebrum interface which allows your technical teams to see the status of the switches and their ports. You can see what flows are available on the specific ports or even go into the crosspoints and analyse the path of the ST-2110 flow, thanks to the integration between Arista MCS and EVS Cerebrum.

For more information on the topic, we would recommend getting in touch with one of our Solution Architects to explain in greater detail.

IP Routing Enhancements

In lots of IP environments we don’t really take full advantage of IP. But with these new routing enhancements you can fully benefit from the flexibility of IP. One new feature that is introduced is receiver capability. It allows you to manually or automatically, based on SDP, define the IP capability of a specific sender or receiver.

As an example, when Cerebrum receives the request to route a UHD source towards a monitor that is only FHD capable, Cerebrum will block that route from happening or it could try and find a resource that is available to create a downconverted signal. Or if the source, a camera, for example, has both UHD and FHD capabilities, Cerebrum will take the best option to send to the receiver without the user even knowing it.

Cerebrum has expanded the capabilities as a control system to be the NMOS server. This is practical for the broadcast engineer that can use one single Cerebrum interface to control and monitor all of his devices. Another nice feature is the ability to create sub IDs for each NMOS device. That means that if a device would break or get replaced you don’t have to reconfigure your routing system. Cerebrum maps the information to the new device for you- saving you time as an engineer.

With every release of Cerebrum we introduce new drivers – for a full list of the drivers we refer to the Cerebrum Datasheet. Here is a short list of new items that we are introducing.

  • Imagine Epic Multiviewer
  • Nevion IPath – federation of sources/destinations
  • Wohler iAM-MX
  • Evertz Magnum Multiviewer Control
  • TAG Media Control System
  • Samsung Display API
  • GV Kaleido – MV Geometry
News about Neuron

One of the main announcements during NAB was the Neuron VIEW. Before going into detail about the VIEW itself we would like to remind you that Neuron is a single hardware platform which allows you to select the functionality you need for your production. Here below you can see the different product families that are currently available.

Introducing the Neuron VIEW

Neuron VIEW enables you to monitor multiple IP streams at the same time for improved usability and ease of operation of your live production workflows. The application can be run on EVS’ Neuron Network Attached Processor (NAP). With one card, of which two fit in one frame, Neuron VIEW can support two UHD outputs or up to eight full HD outputs in a fully customizable layout.

The product supports all the essential functions needed in demanding live-production environments, including multiple tallies and static or dynamic UMDs per picture, PTP or countdown clocks, and various audio bars to indicate audio activity. Configuration of these features can be done using EVS’ Cerebrum broadcast and monitoring system, REST API or the on-board web interface. Moreover, when using IP routing solutions such as EVS’ MediaInfra Strada, production teams can easily route video feeds from any source to the Neuron VIEW, with just a push of a button. The combined functionality of these two technologies offers live production teams a seamless workflow and efficient management of video sources.

Lastly, environmental sustainability is one of our main ESG objectives and we are dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of our customers. As part of this commitment, Neuron VIEW has been designed to be highly power-efficient using close to 90% less electrical power than server-based applications. Compared to previous EVS SDI-based solutions, it also consumes approximately 40% less power while occupying only one-sixth of the rack-unit space. By adopting Neuron VIEW, production teams can benefit from enhanced production capabilities and save on both space and energy costs thanks to the sustainable technology of this multiviewer.
